Margaret Clark


Margaret Clark OBE has been a Trustee of The Trust since 2002.

 

Margaret is a former director and deputy chief executive of the Commission for Rural Communities, the Countryside Agency and the Rural Development Commission.   She has a particular interest in rural housing and was closely involved in HRH The Prince of Wales's Affordable Rural Housing Initiative from its inception.  Currently, she is the chairman of the Hastoe Housing Group and the Somerset, Devon and Dorset Community Land Trust Project.  She is also a member of the CPRE's Policy Committee.
 
She is a former rural adviser to Business in the Community and a past member of the Carnegie UK Trust's Rural Committee;  the BBC Rural Affairs Advisory Committee; the  Independent Policy Commission on Primary School Organisation in Shropshire; and the Housing Corporation's Rural Housing Advisory Group.  On behalf of the UK, she was involved with the OECD's rural development work from the early 1990s and chaired the OECD's international Working Party on Territorial Policy in Rural Areas from 2000 to 2007.  She was also closely involved in HRH The Prince of Wales's Rural Revival Initiative and the three pilot projects in North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Cornwall.  In July 2004, she was appointed as one of HRH The Prince of Wales’s personal ambassadors at the BiTC Awards for Excellence ceremony in London. 
 
She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and she was awarded the OBE in 1999 for services to rural development.
